photo of the day: summer in Woodstock: beautiful Hudson Valley

The Hudson Valley is maybe a half hour drive away from Woodstock and it’s a great place to take pictures. The only thing we couldn’t find
was a cafe or restaurant with view to the river. In fact, there are only a few of such places between Catskill and New York City and they are difficult to find.

photo of the day: leaving Manhattan: skyscrapers on W 57th Street

This is about as Midtown Manhattan as it gets. Tall, slim skyscrapers all over the place. The building on the left is the Carnegie Hall Tower. On street level it looks like an unimpressive 3 story building, so you have to really look skywards to actually see the tower part of the building.

For many, Times Square is the center of Manhattan. Of course it isn’t.
Manhattan has many centers and Times Square is literally a
Disney-version of a megalopolis around Bladerunner-age. Personally, I
like Times Square and I like Broadway shows, anyway.

That’s a view from Brooklyn Heights, taken September 2008, on the
weekend after Lehman Brothers went down. It shows Wall Street in all
it’s glory, but behind the facades it probably looked very difficult.
The second building from the left is where my office is, btw.

photo of the day: goodbye Manhattan: North Cove

We’re not moving far away, but there’s some sense of farewell: after 9
years we’re leaving the small island of Manhattan. Reason to celebrate
with a series of typical Manhattan photos.
This one shows the North Cove at the World Financial Center - a great
place to enjoy a sunset and some margaritas at Southwest New York.
