This is the deck of the Ocean Beach Resort in Montauk, Long Island,
where we hang out for a couple of days at least once per year. It’s
directly at the beach and a faboulous place to spend a lazy day - if
it doesn’t rain like on this day in August 2008.

It’s noon and most likely everybody is at lunch - because that’s what
you do on a cruise. And it was still too chilly to actually lounge in
one of those deck chairs.

These chairs are located on the plaza on 5th Avenue between 58th and
59th Streets. That’s where the flagship Apple Store is and it’s a
lovely place to get some food from one of the street vendors and enjoy
a warm summer evening.

New York’s High Line goes into its second year and as soon as it gets
warmer, these chairs will be coveted spots to hang out and enjoy the
sun.

On Queen Mary 2 Deck 7 is the one where you can jog a mile in three
laps. You can also sit in one of those deck chairs and just watch the
sea.

A look over the more gritty part of the Lower East Side. A couple of
years ago you didn’t want to go there. Now, there’s merely no reason
to go there, unless you live in one of those buildings.

17 State Street is an office building at the tip of Manhattan with a
curved, blueish facade. Which, supposedly, is good for Feng Shui. At
least that’s what I heard about a similar building in Hong Kong

Those three buildings are near the top of Manhattan luxury living,
which makes them attractive for all kinds of celebrities. They feature
private wine cellars and a top restaurant on premises. The neighborhod
is not that great though and they are lined up right at the Westside
highway. But if you live there, you probably anyway have a limo with
driver.

For me the Rockefeller Center symbolizes a certain side of New York
City like no other building (or building complex to be correct). You
can feel the awe that past generations must have felt when they stared
up to the top of the GE building, almost in the clouds.
Since a couple of years you can go up there again and personally I
like it more than the top of the Empire State, because it’s more in
the middle of things and you have unobstructed view from the top
platform.

They started building the Time Warner Center around the time we moved
to New York in 2001. It was still called AOL Time Warner back then and
the two towers would have been a nice skyline counterpoint to the Twin
Towers downtown.
